Siena's lands
Amiata Mount
The Siena region includes a part of the Amiata Mount too. It embraces the villages of Abbadia San Salvatore and Piancastagnaio. The mountain high 1.738 mt, is an old extinct volcano with rocks and small lake of volcanic origin. Inside the vast forrest there is the fauna park of the Monte Labro. This area is rich in chestnuts (with IGP certificate) and mushrooms, above all “porcini” and “ovuli” (very good quality of mediterranean forrest mushrooms), which are the local products along with olive oil and “percorino” cheese. Not to miss the “castagnaccio”, a chestnuts cake typical of this mountain
