Crete Senesi

Essential and harmonic, the Crete Senesi landscape is a timeless image among widespread cornfields freckled by small villages, old churches, farmhouses and endless gravel roads.
This area, located at the south-eastern side of Siena, embraces the villages of Asciano, Buonconvento, Monteroni d’Arbia, San Giovanni d’Asso (known for the production of white truffle) and Rapolano Terme (with its thermal baths and spa centers). From Asciano you can drive along some striking old country-roads: the historical Lauretana road towards Siena, the one to Rapolano and the wonderful gravel road to Monte Sante Marie. To visit the Monteoliveto Maggiore Abbey (14th century) which is the most important monastery of the Siena region. To taste white truffle, olive oil and “pecorino” cheese of the Crete Senesi.
